Our Services
Comprehensive ecological consulting tailored to your project requirements and regulatory context
Preliminary Ecological Appraisal
A desk-based review combined with an extended Phase 1 habitat survey provides the foundation for informed project planning. We identify ecological constraints, protected species potential, and opportunities for enhancement early in your development timeline.
Protected Species Surveys
Licensed ecologists conduct targeted surveys for bats, great crested newts, badgers, dormice, reptiles, water voles, and breeding birds. Each survey follows established methodologies and produces planning-compliant reports.
Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment
Using the statutory biodiversity metric, we calculate baseline habitat value and design enhancement strategies to achieve mandatory BNG requirements. Our reports include habitat creation specifications and long-term management recommendations.
Habitat Management Planning
Detailed management prescriptions for maintaining and enhancing ecological features throughout the lifetime of your development. Plans satisfy planning conditions and provide practical guidance for land managers.
Environmental Impact Assessment
Comprehensive ecological chapters for EIA developments, including baseline characterisation, impact assessment, and mitigation design. We coordinate with other technical disciplines to deliver integrated environmental statements.
Tree and Hedgerow Surveys
BS5837 tree surveys, arboricultural impact assessments, and hedgerow regulations assessments. Our reports inform site layout decisions and satisfy tree officer requirements for planning applications.
Our Survey Process
We begin every engagement with a thorough understanding of your project objectives and planning context. This ensures our survey scope addresses relevant constraints without unnecessary expense.
Following fieldwork, we produce clear reports that communicate findings accessibly to planners while meeting technical standards. Where protected species are present, we provide pragmatic mitigation options that balance ecological requirements with project viability.
Start a ConversationSurvey Timing Considerations
Protected species surveys are seasonally constrained. Planning ahead ensures you capture the necessary data within your project timeline.
Bat Surveys
Activity surveys run May through September. Emergence surveys require specific weather conditions, so early commissioning maximises scheduling flexibility.
Great Crested Newt Surveys
Presence/absence surveys take place mid-March to mid-June. Environmental DNA sampling offers a rapid single-visit alternative during April and May.
Breeding Bird Surveys
Core survey period spans March through June, with two to three visits required to characterise breeding assemblages accurately.
Reptile Surveys
Seven survey visits between April and September establish presence or likely absence. Artificial refugia placement requires advance coordination.
